Nigerian govt gives reason aviation sector would continue to record decline in passengers

International flights: Nigerian govt gives latest update ahead of August 29 resumption

Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation, on Monday, said that until the fourth quarter of 2021 or perhaps the first quarter of 2022, the aviation sector would continue to record a sharp decline in passengers which was directly proportional to the revenue generated.

This, the minister attributed to the effect of COVID-19 pandemic, which had dwindled revenue generation of the industry.

Sirika said this during an interactive session in Abuja with the Senate Joint Committee on Finance and National Planning.

Sirika said “The revenues for yesterday are lost. Therefore, we were hugely impacted by the COVID and with this COVID, I think until quarter four of 2021 and perhaps quarter one of 2022, we will continue to see a sharp decline in passengers, and that is directly proportional to the revenue that we collect because people’s confidence has to be raised.
