PDP stakeholders hail Gov Ortom’s peace initiative

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP stakeholders in North Central Nigeria, on Thursday, commended the leadership role played by Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, in repositioning the party ahead of 2023 elections.

The stakeholders, who spoke with newsmen after meeting with the Governor at the Benue State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, said he has employed uncommon wisdom in resolving the crisis that had rocked the party in Plateau, Nasarawa and Niger States and is able to unite its members as people of the same political family.

They described Governor Ortom as an astute politician whose intervention has brought unity and harmony within the party.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jibril stated that being the only PDP Governor in the North Central, Governor Ortom has shouldered the responsibility of leading the party in the zone with a lot of commitment.

Senator Jibril, who hailed from Nasarawa State, said the intervention of the governor in the crisis affecting the party in that state has led to lifting of the suspension on some members while all pending court cases are also to be withdrawn.

Also, Former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu from Plateau acknowledged the fatherly role played by Governor Ortom in resolving crisis within the PDP, especially in Plateau State and gave assurance that the stakeholders would cooperate with him to lead the party to greater heights.

Similarly, Senator Solomon Ewuga from Nasarawa State, said they were grateful to the Governor for the peace initiative, saying his intervention has thrown open the doors of reconciliation among party members.

Former Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe from Plateau State said due to the governor’s counsel, major players in the party have resolved to put their differences aside and work in unity for the victory of PDP in Plateau and Nigeria, in general, come 2023.

On his part, former Director-General, National Orientation Agency, Dr. Mike Omeri appreciated Governor Ortom for ensuring that PDP remains a united political force in the north-central region.
