Southern Kaduna Crisis: CNG, Southern Kaduna stakeholders seek ways for peaceful coexistence

Determined to restore peace in Kaduna State, the Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, and Southern Kaduna leaders have constituted committees meant to synergize with one another for better understanding and peaceful coexistence.

The two groups constituted three committees with the mandate to come up with an acceptable framework for peace.

The committees are the economic and empowerment committee, political and social committee, and the governance/ law enforcement committee.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the CNG spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said that the meeting also resolved to establish a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that would accommodate relevant stakeholders with an objective mindset that will essentially work for the restoration of peace, encourage reconciliation and accelerate economic growth mechanisms.

He explained that the meeting is a follow up to the meeting held at Kagarko in Kagarko local government area weeks back tagged, “Southern Kaduna dialogue and peace initiative”.

He assured that participants have resolved not to leave any stone unturned towards ensuring that lasting peace returns to Southern Kaduna and the state as a whole.

According to him, “Participants unanimously resolved to set up an NGO for Southern Kaduna that will promote peace, reconciliation and empowerment.

“That in addition to the mandate of the various committees set up, suggest a name and draft a memorandum of association and a programme of action for the new NGO for immediate registration with relevant bodies and for advocacy to commence immediately and liaise with clerics.”

The meeting identified bad politics, harsh economic realities and insufficient, ineffective government response as well as a poor approach to the plight of the citizens as major drivers of the recurring crisis in the area.

He informed that the economic and empowerment committee which is to be chaired by Hon. Paul Wali and Shunom Adinga as Secretary are to look at the economic situations and how to empower the people of the area.

The political and social committee, he explained, is to be chaired by Bala Adamu and Rahila Emmanuel as Secretary and look at the role of politics and politicians and suggest ways on how to promote peaceful cohesion among all.

He further explained that the governance committee is to be chaired by Rev. Bitrus Dangiwa and Solomon Jatua as chairman and secretary respectively and is to identify what government has done well or not doing, adding that it is expected to engage with international communities on the way forward.
